Sunday’s tipoff is set for noon ET from Madison Square Garden. The Knicks won the first meeting of the season

This model, which simulates every game 10,000 times, is crushing its NBA picks. It entered Week 22 of the 2018-19 NBA season with a sterling 240-187 record on all top-rated picks, returning almost $4,000 to anybody following them. And it has been particularly red-hot on its A-rated NBA picks against the spread, entering Week 22 on a strong 54-42 run. Anybody who has followed it is way up.

Now the model has dialed in on Lakers vs. Knicks. We can tell you it is leaning under, but it’s also showing a pick against the spread that cashes in nearly 60 percent of simulations. That one is available exclusively at SportsLine.

The Lakers have dominated the all-time series with the Knicks, which dates back to 1948. Los Angeles holds a 167-121 edge. Although the Lakers have struggled mightily at times, they are still among the league’s best in some statistical categories, including second in points in the paint (3,854), sixth in field-goal percentage (.475) and ninth in rebounds (46.2).

LeBron James (27.4 ppg), who sat out Friday’s loss at Detroit with a groin injury, has been hot. He scored 29 at Toronto on Thursday, 36 at Chicago on Tuesday and had 30 against Boston on March 9. Center JaVale McGee (11 ppg) scored 20 at Detroit and was a big factor against the Knicks in the first meeting, scoring 18 points.

But just because Los Angeles has historically had success against New York doesn’t guarantee it will cover the Lakers vs. Knicks spread on Sunday afternoon.

That’s because since the 2014-15 season, the Knicks have won seven of nine in the series and six of the past seven played in New York. New York is led by Dennis Smith Jr. (14.6 ppg), who missed Friday’s game at San Antonio with a sore back and is listed as questionable for Sunday. Smith scored 18 points against the Kings on March 9, one of 36 games this season in which he has reached double figures.

Point guard Emmanuel Mudiay (14.2 ppg) had 21 at Indiana Tuesday and scored 15 in the first meeting with the Lakers, while forward Kevin Knox (12.3 ppg) had 16 at Indiana and 14 against the Lakers. Knox ranks fifth in 3-point field goals made, seventh in scoring and ninth in rebounds among NBA rookies. He has had nine 20-point performances and one 30-point game. Two teams sitting outside the playoff places of their respective conference are clashing today, when the New York Knicks (13-56), are hosting the Los Angeles Lakers (31-38), with both teams having lost their last eight and two games respectively and are looking to end those losing streaks today.

In their previous meeting earlier this season the Knicks won on the road with a 112-119 score. Knicks have a 6-26 home record, while the Lakers are 13-22 on the road. Lakers are better offensively, scoring 111.8 ppg to Knicks’ 105 and both teams are almost equal defensively, allowing 113.6 and 113.8 ppg each. Lakers have a better field goal percentage (47.4% to 43.1%), while Knicks have a better 3-point percentage (34.3% to 33.1%). Knicks are better in turnovers committed (13.3 to 15.2),

while Lakers are better both in boards grabbed (46.2 to 44.8) and in dimes made (25.2 to 19.9). Vegas odds give the Lakers a -4.5 spread for this game and expect them to beat the odds against the weakest team in the league this season. When the New York Knicks bought out his contract, several NBA teams expressed interest in acquiring veteran center Enes Kanter, including the Los Angeles Lakers. After trading Michael Beasley and Ivica Zubac to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Mike Muscala before the February NBA trade deadline, the Lakers created a roster spot that they could use to add a player on the buyout market. Unfortunately, instead of joining the Lakers, Kanter decided to sign with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Here’s my latest mock draft with the draft order set by SportsLine’s NBA projected standings. It’s not something most in the NBA ponder during the intense heat of a late-season playoff push.

Everything is compartmentalized. You’re trying to win the next possession, the next quarter, the next game. Anything beyond what’s right in front of you cannot claim your focus.

The Draft lottery, the playoffs, awards season, the 2019 Draft, free agency … everything has its time and place on the NBA calendar.

But what if we looked into the future, and not to just the summer of 2019, but three, four or five years from now? What does the landscape look like? Who takes over for the current generation of superstars? Are they even on our radar right now?

I posed those questions to two NBA executives, one from each conference, two advance scouts and one college scout in search of a picture of what the future of the Kia Race to the MVP Ladder might look like five years from now.

Surely, we’ll have some familiar faces, current stars entering the primes of their careers who will no doubt remain relevant in the MVP conversation. Guys like Giannis Antentokounmpo, Joel Embiid, Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Davis and Ben Simmons – all leaders of the new school of superstars.

Pacers vs 76ers Live NBA

The Philadelphia 76ers will look to snap a two-game losing streak when they host the Indiana Pacers on Sunday.

The Sixers, who sit in fourth place in the Eastern Conference playoff standings, remain one game behind the Pacers for third.

Philadelphia fell 107-91 Friday night in Houston without All-Star center Joel Embiid (left knee) for the eighth straight game and reserve center Boban Marjanovic (right knee) for the fifth consecutive game.

Tobias Harris picked up the slack in Houston with 22 points and nine rebounds while Jimmy Butler added 19 points and nine rebounds. Ben Simmons, who had been questionable to play with an illness, contributed 15 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds. Simmons recorded his career-best 39th double-double.

“We’ve just got to grow from this one, learn from this one, and keep it pushing,” Harris told reporters. “We’ve shown so many spurts of how good we can be.”

T.J. McConnell scored 13 points off the bench, but the shorthanded Sixers were soundly defeated in the low post without Embiid and Marjanovic.

“I look forward to going home,” Sixers head coach Brett Brown told reporters. “I hope to take the things that we’ve learned since the All-Star break, build on that, and clean stuff up.”

The Sixers will need to shoot much better if they hope to oust the Pacers. In the loss to the Rockets, Philadelphia was just 3 of 26 from beyond the 3-point arc. JJ Redick made just 1 of 9 and Mike Scott missed all five of his attempts.

The Sixers, who have won two of three against the Pacers this season, open a three-game homestand at home where they’re 25-9 this season.

The Pacers were defeated easily by the Milwaukee Bucks, 117-98, on Thursday. Obviously, this road game against the Sixers is now that much more important.

“The biggest thing is staying confident and believing in the stuff that we’re running, execution and trying to put together a 48-minute game,” Pacers forward Thad Young told reporters.

Myles Turner scored 22 points and grabbed 17 rebounds while Bojan Bogdanovic added 17 but the Pacers missed way too many open shots against one of the elite teams in the NBA.

Defensively, the Pacers also had a number of breakdowns and the Bucks capitalized.

Giannis Antetokounmpo (29) and Khris Middleton (27) combined for 56 points.

“Too much Antetokounmpo, too much Middleton,” Pacers head coach Nate McMillan told reporters. “When they have the attack at the basket and are knocking down threes, they’re going to be tough to guard. They were pretty much knocking shots down from the perimeter and getting shots at the rim tonight. We missed some shots. We had some open looks that we needed to knock down and we didn’t early.”

The Pacers are still holding on to the No. 3 seed even without guard Victor Oladipo, who is out for the season with a quad injury. This game against the Sixers will be huge in terms of how the playoff race shakes out.

Toronto Raptors vs Miami Heat live

What Raptor fans thought would be an easy going run of games in the final stretch of the season has turned out to be quite the opposite. After a big win following the All-Star break against the Spurs, Toronto has gone 3-3 over their last six. On paper, the Raptors maybe could have gone 6-0. But their opponents have been playing well above their season-long levels.

Case in point: prior to their win against Toronto, Orlando had won five of six (and shortly after had an impressive win against Golden State). Portland was riding a 5-game win streak before stepping into the Scotiabank Arena. The Pistons were 8-2 over their last 10 before Toronto, and the Rockets finally got healthy and currently hold the longest win streak in the league at seven games.

The Miami Heat seem to be hitting their stride too. They’ve won give of their last six — with the one loss coming against the streaking Rockets. Over the last six games, the only teams with higher net ratings are coincidentally the last two teams to beat Toronto, Detroit and Houston. We all remember the 2016-17 season, in which the Heat started 11-30, then went on to win 30 of their next 41. Miami is on the second game of a season-defining five-game homestand in which they play Charlotte, Detroit, Milwaukee, and today, Toronto.

Toronto are 2-0 against Miami this season, winning by 10 in Toronto and by two in Miami. Currently, the Heat hold the 8th place in the Eastern conference and are only two games behind the Brooklyn Nets. With Kawhi Leonard out again and Miami playing great basketball, can Toronto tough it out on the front end of a back to back? Here are the details for today’s game.

Chicago Bulls vs Detroit Pistons Live

The Detroit Pistons look to sweep the Chicago Bulls in back-to-back games and for the season when they meet Sunday. The Pistons (33-31) have won all three meetings, including Friday night. The Bulls (19-48), meanwhile, are out to snap a six-game losing streak to Detroit. Tipoff is set for noon ET from Little Caesars Arena. The Pistons are sixth in the Eastern Conference and third in the Central Division. The Bulls are out of playoff contention and fourth in the Central. Detroit is an 8.5-point favorite in the latest Pistons vs. Bulls odds, with the over-under for total points scored set at 217. Before making any Pistons vs. Bulls picks of your own, you need to check out the NBA predictions from the SportsLine Projection Model.

This model, which simulates every game 10,000 times, is crushing its NBA picks. It entered Week 21 of the 2018-19 NBA season with a sterling 234-178 record on all top-rated picks, returning more than $4,000 to anybody following them. And it has been particularly red-hot on its A-rated NBA picks against the spread, entering Week 21 on a strong 52-37 run. Anybody who has followed it is way up.

Now the model has dialed in on Pistons vs. Bulls. We can tell you it is leaning under, but it’s also showing a pick against the spread that cashes in nearly 60 percent of simulations. That one is available exclusively at SportsLine.

The Pistons have played well of late, winning four straight and 11 of 13. They are 7-1 since the All-Star break. Detroit is 7-5 in the division and 23-19 against conference foes. Detroit has been tough at home, posting a 20-13 mark there. On Friday against Chicago, the Pistons rallied from a 21-point first-half deficit to post a 112-104 win.

Big man Blake Griffin (25.3 ppg) spurred the comeback, scoring 16 of his game-high 27 points in the second half. Griffin has been scorching hot of late, scoring 27 against Toronto on March 3. He had 33 in the Oct. 20 meeting against the Bulls. Andre Drummond (17.6 ppg) has also dominated the Bulls this year, scoring 20 points and grabbing 24 rebounds in Friday’s win. He had 19 points against Chicago in the Nov. 30 game.

But just because Detroit has won all three meetings this season doesn’t guarantee it will cover the Pistons vs. Bulls spread on Sunday.

That’s because the Bulls have been playing better of late. Chicago has won six of its past 10 games, including wins over playoff-bound teams Philadelphia and Boston. The Bulls also beat Brooklyn last month. Chicago’s offense started strong in Friday’s loss, as the Bulls shot 65 percent from the floor in the first half, including 44 points in the paint.

Guard Zach LaVine (23.8 ppg) has been on fire the past 10 games. He had 24 against the Pistons on Friday, 39 vs. Philadelphia on Wednesday, 47 vs. Atlanta on March 3 and 42 against Boston on Feb. 23. He scored 33 against the Pistons in the first meeting on Oct. 20. Power forward Lauri Markkanen (19.3 ppg) has also had several big games the past month, including 35 vs. Boston and 31 at Atlanta on March 1.

Charlotte Hornets The 10th Positioned Team On the table Faces Milwaukee Bucks. The Team That Has Beaten Every Team In The NBA Lead By Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Lead Scorer For the Milwaukee Bucks Scored 25+ Points in the Last Game for a Crushing Win over the Indiana Pacers.

Hornets vs Bucks Live stream

The NBA-best Milwaukee Bucks have already finished their season series against Eastern Conference powers Toronto, Indiana and Boston.

They went 8-3 in those games and have two contests left against another contender, Philadelphia, having beaten the 76ers in their one meeting so far this season.

That success against the best in the East bodes well for a deep run in the playoffs, but the Bucks still have 17 games of regular-season business remaining, including a Saturday home matchup against the Charlotte Hornets, who are a potential first-round opponent.

The Bucks claimed a 3-1 series win over the Pacers with a 117-98 home win on Thursday that snapped their first two-game losing streak of the season.

“I think we always talk about the experiences from the regular season,” Milwaukee coach Mike Budenholzer said in his postgame press conference.

“You can draw on them and reference back and hopefully we’re building the right habits so that when we play any and all of those teams — if it happens in the playoffs — you’re prepared for it, you feel confident and ready to go.”

Milwaukee will be looking to win another season series on Saturday night.

The Bucks are 2-1 against Charlotte this season, including a 108-99 home victory on Jan. 25 when Milwaukee outscored the Hornets 32-12 in the fourth quarter. Bucks star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo is averaging 26.3 points, 15.0 rebounds and 6.7 assists in those three games.

Every game is a must-win for the Hornets, who will be playing on a back-to-back after beating visiting Washington 112-111 on Friday night to put another game of distance between themselves and the Wizards in the playoff chase.

Charlotte had dropped nine of its previous 12 games to slip just outside the eighth and final playoff spot in the East.
